Partners on stage as well as in life, Tsygankov and Shevchenko have been ranked among the upper echelons of Russian folk music. Their touring schedule has taken them across Europe, Asia, and the United States. Tsygankov is the world?s leading domrist, has been given the moniker of the ?Russian Paganini? and holds the coveted title of ?Distinguished Artist of Russia.? He is the author of three books containing original music and transcriptions for domra. The distinctive style of these compositions has opened new possibilities for the instrument and set the standard for domra technique. He has performed at the White House, Carnegie Hall, New York?s Lincoln Center and has thrilled audiences in Washington D.C.?s famed Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts. A graduate of the highly esteemed Gnessins Academy of Music in Moscow, former soloist and concertmaster of the Ossipov Orchestra, arranger, composer, and professor, Sasha now brings his art to William & Mary as guest of the Russian Music Ensemble. He will be joined by his wife and musical partner, Inna Shevchenko, on piano. Shevchenko holds the much-revered title of ?Honored Artist of Russia? and is a renowned piano soloist and accompanist. Her style and technique are unique. She grew up in Ukraine and moved to Moscow where she graduated from Gnessins Academy of Music. There is no city in Russia in which this amazing duo has not performed. When not touring, they teach at the Gnessins Academy. This concert is the culmination of their extended weekend here as special guests of the Russian Music Ensemble.
