September 22, 2013
7:30pm
Location
Williamsburg Library Theatre
"Some of the most beautiful and unusual chamber music of the season ... a performance of remarkable intensity and a far wider range than the usual chamber music fare." (The Washington Post) "Impossible to overpraise" (The New York Times) Percussion Group Cincinnati performs classic and experimental music from America, Chile, Bali, South Africa and China in an entertaining, dynamic and sometimes humorous manner. Their instruments include marimbas, drums, gongs, prepared piano a computer, a deck of cards, newspapers and many other items that can be exploited for sound. As one critic put it, "No stone--or rather, no instrument, no potential for beauty--is left unturned here" (CD Baby). Founded in 1979, the trio is in residence at the College-Conservatory of Music at the University of Cincinnati. The ensemble has performed throughout America, Europe and Asia, including at the Shanghai International Spring Music Festival. This concert is in memory of William & Mary composer Bill DeFotis (1953-2003), 10 years after his premature death.
This concert is co-sponsored by the Williamsburg Regional Library's Dewey Decibel Series.
