[PAST EVENT] What is Prof. Shanta Hinton's lab doing this summer?
July 9, 2014
4:30pm - 6pm
Dr. Shanta D. Hinton's, assistant professor in the biology department, lab investigates proteins that are major players in signaling pathways responsible for cellular communication. Specifically, her lab focuses on human "duds" or pseudoenzymes, which is an abundant population of the human genome. She will present on a specific pseudoenzyme termed MK-STYX whose prototype was intentionally named with the illusion to the Greek river STYX. She'll discuss her labs finding about the role MK-STYX has in the stress response and neuronal development pathways. Furthermore, her talk will include informative bits of how her lab journeyed to focus on such an active "dud."
