[PAST EVENT] Concord Traveling Scholarship Recipient Presentation —Anhthu Cung
Access & Features
- Open to the public
Anhthu Cung received William & Mary’s Concord Traveling Scholarship in 2022 to travel to Vietnam to explore her family background. As she wrote in her scholarship proposal, one of her goals was to examine how the Vietnam War affected the country’s literary history and how the country’s political divisions influenced the development of its cuisine. “The culture surrounding street food in particular,” she said, “has been an enduring part of Vietnam’s culinary history.” This past summer Anhthu went to Hue, her family’s home city, with her Vietnamese grandparents and spoke to the owners, employees, and customers at food stalls on the street. Her presentation, which is free and open to the public, will include readings from what she wrote about her experiences as well as photographs of what she saw. A reception will follow the presentation.
