November 6, 2018
5pm - 6pm
Lecture: Ben Orlin (Math teacher, tutor, artist, author)
Title: The Unlikely Friendship of Math and Science
Ben Orlin discusses how seemingly useless bits of pure mathematics often
find surprising applications. How is it that, from knot theory to
meta-logic to higher-dimensional geometry, the math that sounds the most
fanciful turns out to be the most useful?
Speaker: Ben Orlin, math educator and author of the new book "Math with
Bad Drawings: Illuminating the Ideas That Shape Our Reality" and the
blog.
