Joan Biskupic will present the university's Constitution Day lecture on September 16. The nation's annual Constitution Day and Citizenship Day observance commemorates the signing of the Constitution on September 17, 1787. Admission is free for this event and all are welcome to attend. Joan Biskupic will discuss the Roberts Court drawing on her research completed to produce her new book, The Chief: The Life and Turbulent Times of Chief Justice John Roberts.
Joan Biskupic is a full-time CNN legal analyst. Before joining CNN in 2017, Biskupic was an editor-in-charge for Legal Affairs at Reuters and, previously, the Supreme Court correspondent for the Washington Post and for USA Today. Biskupic was a finalist for the Pulitzer Prize in explanatory journalism in 2015. In addition to her latest biography, The Chief: The Life and Turbulent Times of Chief Justice John Roberts, Biskupic is the author of Breaking In: The Rise of Sonia Sotomayor and the Politics of Justice (2014), American Original: The Life and Constitution of Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia (2009) and Sandra Day O’Connor: How the First Woman on the Supreme Court Became Its Most Influential Justice (2005). Before joining CNN, she spent a year as a visiting professor at the University of California, Irvine, Law School. A native of Chicago, Biskupic holds a law degree from Georgetown University and lives in Washington, D.C.
