Abstract: Photon-number-resolving detectors (PNRDs), detectors that are sensitive to single photons but can also resolve the number of photons, have been developed in the last few decades. Nowadays, high performance PNRDs are available commercially, enabling photon-number detection with high fidelity.
In this talk, I will show how photon-number detection can be exploited to demonstrate quantum enhancement in fields of quantum remote sensing, imaging and interferometry. For example, experimental results of super resolution interferometry, using parity detection, will be presented, as well as noise-improved rangefinding and LIDARs.
Bio: Lior cohen is a researcher working on quantum science and technology. He received his PhD in physics from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem in 2018, working on experimental quantum sensing and interferometry. He joined the quantum science and technology group at Louisiana State University in 2018, and recently promoted to a research professor. His research is focused on applications of quantum optics in sensing, imaging and quantum simulations.
