[PAST EVENT] Lecture by Dr. Sonia Sanchez on "Sephardic Heritage: Pilgrimage back to Spain"

Dr. Sonia Sanchez from the Centro Sefarad-Israel in Madrid will give a public lecture on Jewish heritage pilgrimage to Spain. The Embassy of Spain in Washington, D.C., is helping sponsor Sanchez's visit to the United States to celebrate the Sephardic legacy throughout the world. The lecture is free and open to the public and will be followed by a reception at the Muscarelle Museum.
Dr. Sanchez's lecture will open the 2014 Symposium on Pilgrimage Studies, sponsored by the Institute for Pilgrimage Studies at the College of William and Mary. The Symposium will last until Sunday noon, Sept. 28. Other public events include a lecture by authors David Gitlitz and Linda Davidson on "Jewish shrines? Jewish saints? Jewish pilgrims?" (Saturday, 5 pm, Tucker Auditorium) and a discussion with Rabbi Joshua Weinberg and W&M students on "Exploring Birthright Israel: Heritage Pilgrimage, Cultural Tourism and Political Identity" (Sunday, 9 am, Tucker Auditorium).
