[PAST EVENT] Xin Ma: Applied Science Dissertation Defense
November 14, 2014
2:30pm - 5pm
Abstract: This thesis presents optical characterization of the static and dynamic magnetic interactions in ferromagnetic and multiferroic heterostructures with time-resolved and interface-specific optical techniques. The focus of the thesis is on elucidating the underlying physics of key physical parameters and novel approaches, crucial to the performance of magnetic recording and spintronic devices.
Bio: Xin Ma was born in Fuzhou, Jiangxi, China on May 18, 1988. Xin Ma received his B.S. degree, majored in Condensed Matter Physics at the University of Science and Technology of China in 2009. In August 2009, Xin Ma entered the College of William and Mary as a research assistant in the Department of Applied Science. As a Ph.D. candidate, Xin Ma devoted to investigating magnetic properties and materials, including spin dynamics and interface magnetization, with pulsed lasers and ultra fast techniques.
