[PAST EVENT] Lecture: Commonwealth?s Efforts to Address Sea Level Rise and Restore the Chesapeake Bay
These experts will be speaking about the Commonwealth's current efforts to address sea level rise and the Chesapeake Bay TMDL. This First Tuesday lecture is part of a series in cooperation with the Virginia Coastal Policy Center (VCPC) at William & Mary Law School, and the Muscarelle Museum of Art presenting the 17th National Exhibition of the American Society of Marine Artists.Presented by MCV Foundation and VCU Health. Elizabeth Andrews is a Professor of the Practice and Director of the Virginia Coastal Policy Center at William & Mary Law School, which is a partnership between the Law School, Virginia Sea Grant and the Virginia Institute of Marine Science. In addition to educating future citizen lawyers, the Center provides science-based legal and policy analysis of ecological issues affecting the state?s coastal resources, and provides education and advice to Virginia?s decision makers such as government officials, legal scholars, non-profit organizations and business leaders. Before joining the William & Mary Law School faculty, Professor Andrews served as the Water Policy Manager for the Virginia Department of Environmental Quality, where she assisted the agency with policy issues related to stormwater management and erosion control, the Chesapeake Bay Preservation Act, wetlands, and water permitting. Prior to that, she served as Senior Assistant Attorney General and Chief of the Environmental Section of the Virginia Office of the Attorney General, where she oversaw a team of attorneys litigating cases in federal and state court and counseling the state natural resources agencies on environmental and administrative law matters.
Peggy Sanner is Virginia Assistant Director and Senior Attorney of the Chesapeake Bay Foundation. Ms. Sanner is the Chesapeake Bay Foundation's legal advisor on all aspects of Virginia Office programs, including litigation, liability, contracting, and lobbying. She provides legal advice for the development of CBF goals. Peggy also works with the Virginia Executive Director on the formulation of position statements on environmental legislation and regulations, and advocates on behalf of CBF to legislators, agencies, community decision-makers, and the general public.
