THIS IS A HYBRID EVENT.

Join us back on campus for a Discovery Lab or join us virtually from anywhere for the presentation!

Marshes are some of the most productive ecosystems in the world! From carbon to nitrogen, these elements contribute to marshes' functionality as an ecosystem. Learn about the flora and fauna of Virginia's coastal marshes while VIMS PhD candidate, Derek Detweiler, explains his research on tracing the sources of carbon in marshes!

Discovery Labs are free, family-friendly programs provided each month by the Chesapeake Bay National Estuarine Research Reserve (CBNERR) at VIMS. Designed with elementary-aged youth and their parents in mind, each lab focuses on a different topic related to the Chesapeake Bay and our local environment and includes exhibits, demonstrations, and hands-on activities as well as a short presentation (from 6:30-7:00 PM) by an expert on the topic.

Reservations to this event are required due to limited space.

At this time, masks are required for all individuals indoors during this event. We ask that you monitor for symptoms of COVID-19 in the days leading up to this event and attend the Discovery Lab from your home via the live-webinar if you are experiencing symptoms.

An inherent risk of exposure to harmful pathogens like COVID-19 exists where people gather for events such as this one. Due to the contagious nature of COVID-19, VIMS/William & Mary request that all attendees follow the posted guidelines while participating in the event. By choosing to attend this event, you are acknowledging the risks, your willingness to assume those risks, and your agreement to abide by the applicable health and safety measures that are in place at the time of this event.

As we move forward, our planning must necessarily be flexible and will be based on current health data. For the latest information on VIMS and W&M’s pandemic response, please visit the Path Forward website.
