Title: Data and AI Markets: Grand Opportunities for Data and AI Model Sharing, Discovery, and Integration
Abstract
The markets for data and AI models are rapidly emerging, becoming increasingly significant in data science and artificial intelligence. These markets are being explored from diverse perspectives such as e-commerce, economics, machine learning, and data management. In this talk, I will highlight a novel perspective: data and AI markets as grand opportunities for data and AI model sharing, discovery, and integration. I will motivate the importance of data and model markets using practical examples, introduce the current industry landscape of such markets, explore the modules and options of such markets from multiple dimensions, including assets in the markets (e.g., data versus models), platforms, and participants. Moreover, I will share example projects from my group to showcase the interdisciplinary research opportunities that this new research direction offers. We are dedicated to explore the fascinating world of data and AI markets and discover the potential they hold for the future.
Biography:
Dr. Jian Pei is the Arthur S. Pearse Distinguished Professor at Duke University, where his research focuses on data science, applied machine learning, big data, data mining, and database systems. With a strong emphasis on developing effective and efficient data analysis techniques for novel data-intensive applications, Dr. Pei's work has made a significant impact both within and beyond academia. He is honored as a Fellow of the Royal Society of Canada (RSC), the Canadian Academy of Engineering, ACM, and IEEE. Dr. Pei is a prolific and influential author. Since 2000, he has published a textbook, two monographs, and over 300 research papers in refereed journals and conferences, with his work being cited over 129,000 times. His contributions have not only advanced academic knowledge but have also been widely adopted in industry. His algorithms are integrated into production systems and adopted in popular open-source software suites, and he has overseen the development of several commercial systems of unprecedented scale. Dr. Pei has received numerous prestigious awards, including the 2017 ACM SIGKDD Innovation Award, the 2015 ACM SIGKDD Service Award, and several best paper and test-of-time awards.
