[PAST EVENT] Webinar: Adversity in Childhood - Prevention and Intervention
Access & Features
- Open to the public
- Registration/RSVP
Dr. Elizabeth Burgin, assistant professor of counselor education, will present "Adversity in Childhood: Counseling Strategies for Prevention and Intervention."
Children who experience adversity are at risk of experiencing social, behavioral, achievement, mental and physical health problems. Children in marginalized groups may be more likely to experience exposure to adversity but frequently face more barriers to receive systemic supports and mental health care.
In this webinar, Dr. Elizabeth Burgin will describe the prevalence and outcomes, as well as protective factors which may mitigate the effects of childhood traumatic exposure. She will review promising new counseling research and describe culturally and developmentally responsive prevention and intervention strategies for counselors, researchers, and stakeholders to consider in their work to address childhood trauma in underserved communities.
