As we celebrate W&M Education Week, join us for the 2021 Hornsby Lecture featuring Dr. Howard Fields for a discussion of educational equity.

How to Achieve Educational Equity

Educational equity is more than the popular depiction of students being provided boxes to stand on as a means to access a baseball game. To frame it as such oversimplifies the complexities in both education and equity itself. In this presentation, Dr. Howard E. Fields III will reveal a more accurate and actionable definition for educational equity, as well as practical tools to assist aspiring, current, and retired educators in their journey to support students.

International speaker and presenter, Dr. Howard E. Fields III currently serves as an Assistant Superintendent of Human Resources and Adjunct Professor. He is the author of the new book, How to Achieve Educational Equity, and co-founder of Black Males in Education St. Louis (BMESTL) and EduOpenings.com. As an educational thought leader, his perspective and focus on remaining student-centered, yet equity-focused, along with an innate ability to create and implement strategic solutions for organizations has made him a sought-out speaker, writer, and consultant.

Ahead of the lecture, join us for a reception with light hors d'oeuvres from 5:00 - 6:00 p.m. During this time, faculty and students from the School of Education will present their equity-focused research and engagement efforts through a gallery walk of research posters. We invite you to join us to learn more about ongoing efforts at the school and to connect with the community.

A brief Q&A with Dr. Fields will follow his talk.

The lecture will be delivered in-person at the School of Education and live-streamed via Zoom. Register and join the Zoom session here
