The Modern Research University: Past, Present, Future

How did American universities become some of the most preeminent institutions of higher education in the world? And how will that history, along with modern-day social, technological and intellectual pressures, shape their future trajectory? Join William & Mary Libraries and the School of Education for a discussion of the history and future of higher education in America.

Jim Axtell, emeritus faculty member in the department of history and author of Wisdom?s Workshop: The Rise of the Modern University, and Pam Eddy, Professor of Higher Education, will speak on the topic, followed by a Q&A with audience members.
