[PAST EVENT] Bellini Colloquium: Bodies and Dissidence: Art and Literature in Latin American Culture.
Access & Features
- Open to the public
This presentation examines how physicality and the intervention of iconic figures shape Latin American cultural discourse. Focusing on Venezuelan artist Deborah Castillo, we explore how her performances challenge the narratives surrounding figures like Simón Bolívar and Hugo Chávez, interrogating how these leaders articulate national identity. We will also analyze the literary correspondence between Juan García Ponce and Pierre Klossowski, highlighting themes of theology and disability that reveal layers of dissent in literary expression. These perspectives demonstrate how cultural representations position the citizen's body as a site of resistance and alternative experiences of political engagement.
