Paul Smith, the Vice President of Litigation and Strategy at Campaign Legal Center, will discuss the weaponizing of the first amendment by conservative groups to advance their goals, with a focus on refusals to comply with civil rights laws. Lunch will be served.

Paul Smith has argued before the Supreme Court 21 times, including important civil liberties cases such as Lawrence v. Texas and Brown v. Entertainment Merchants Ass'n. Additionally, Smith has argued in a number of voting rights cases, including Vieth v. Jubelirer, LULAC v. Perry, and Crawford v. Marion County Election Board. In addition to his work at CLC, Paul Smith is a Distinguished Visitor from Practice at Georgetown University Law Center. He also serves on the American Constitution Society Board of Advisors and is former co-chair of Lamda Legal.
