[PAST EVENT] Responsibility & Relationships: 2-Day Conference
September 27, 2012 - September 28, 2012
8:30am - 8pm
Location
Hospitality House Empire Ballroom
In 1962, P. F. Strawson urged moral philosophers "to try to keep before our minds something it is easy to forget when we are engaged in philosophy, especially in our cool, contemporary style, viz. what it is actually like to be involved in ordinary interpersonal relationships," and the result of following this advice has been a much improved understanding of moral responsibility and the enormous variety of reactions and interactions that are at the core of our moral lives. But there is still so much work to be done.
In honor of the 50th anniversary of the publication of Strawson's essay, the philosophy department at The College of William & Mary is proud to host Responsibility & Relationships, a two-day workshop that will explore Strawsonian themes in contemporary moral philosophy, psychology, and the law, including new work on blame, punishment, and the moral emotions. The conference will take place on September 27 and 28, 2012.
