[PAST EVENT] Affirmative Action and Fair Admissions with Prof. Sohoni
Access & Features
- Free food
- Open to the public
Affirmative action. We've read about it in class, seen it on the news, and maybe even talked about it with our friends. But what's the deal with Students for Fair Admissions v. Harvard? Is affirmative action still working as it should, or is it reaching a critical turning point? Are the long-term consequences of California Proposition 209 something we can expect to see in other states in the near future?
APALSA--together with ACS, BLSA, JLSA, and MLSA--is excited to bring Professor Deenesh Sohoni from the university to the Law School on April 15 during the lunch hour for an in-depth discussion on the Harvard lawsuit and affirmative action policies at higher education institutions generally. The event will be held in 119 and lunch will be served!
Professor Sohoni is Associate Professor of Sociology at William & Mary. His research revolves around understanding the multifaceted nature of race and ethnic relations in diverse societies. Specifically, he examines the significance of race, ethnicity, nativity and citizenship status in a variety of important social institutions such as education, marriage, the military, the law, and the media.
