[PAST EVENT] Virginia Foster Care Reform: Maintaining Momentum
In 2019, in response to a scathing report on the state of foster care in Virginia, the General Assembly passed a slew of bills designed to address identified issues. But the work has just begun: there is still more to do to improve our system of care for Virginia’s most vulnerable children.
Join our panel, led by the Virginia General Assembly’s Foster Care Caucus Chairs, Del. Emily Brewer, R-Suffolk, and Sen. Monty Mason, D-Williamsburg, as they discuss next steps for the Virginia General Assembly to address the pressing foster care related issues that affect our state's most vulnerable youth.
- 2019’s foster care legislative reforms
- Priorities for the 2020 General Assembly session
- How foster care funding will change due to new federal policies mandated by the 2018 Family First Prevention Services Act
Moderated by Valerie L'Herrou, Esq., staff attorney at the Virginia Poverty Law Center, and Allison Gilbreath, foster care policy analyst at Voices for Virginia's Children.
