[PAST EVENT] Christian Lawyer Speaker Series: Mark Matney
Join the Christian Legal Society in welcoming Mark Matney, W&M Adjunct Faculty and Hampton Roads Defense Lawyer. He will be sharing with us about the way his legal career has intertwined with his spiritual journey with the Lord. Students will have opportunity to ask questions about Mr. Matney's life path.
Mark R. Matney is a defense lawyer who focuses on DUI and other serious traffic violations. He launched his solo practice in Newport News in 2012 and recently concluded a three year term as a director of the Newport News Bar Association. He has trained with the National College for DUI Defense and the DUI Defense Lawyers Association. He is admitted to practice before the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit.
He served as an editor for the Thomson Reuters practice manual Virginia DUI Law: Understanding the Scientific, Medical, Technological, and Legal Aspects of a DUI Case, by Tillotson & Martin, and he contributed the Virginia chapter to the book A Cup of Coffee With 10 of the Top DUI Attorneys in the United States. As an allied attorney with Alliance Defending Freedom and former chair of the community service committee of the Newport News Bar Association, he has volunteered more than 800 hours to nonprofit boards, legal clinics and pro bono legal representation.
Mr. Matney graduated from the William & Mary Law School in 1992. He completed his B.A. in International Studies at The American University in 1989 and his M.Div. degree in 2005 with Evangel Theological Seminary.
