[PAST EVENT] Policing the Womb: Invisible Women and the Criminalization of Motherhood
Access & Features
- Open to the public
- Registration/RSVP
Renowned scholar Professor Michele Goodwin will address the rise in criminal prosecutions targeting poor pregnant women. She considers this surveillance and policing alongside an extended history of racial surveillance intersecting sex, race, class, and property in the United States. Her work brings the antebellum project of policing Black women's reproduction into an urgent contemporary conversation. Professor Goodwin will also take your questions in this hour-long discussion sponsored by the W&M Center for Racial & Social Justice. This event is for students and all members of the community. We hope you will join us.
