Emilio Garza, former judge of the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals, will deliver a lecture in the Dunn Speaker Series. This event is free and open to all. Please RSVP.
Judge Garza's biography (excerpted from Ballotpedia):
Garza received his J.D. degree from the University of Texas School of Law in 1976.
Garza was a private practice attorney in the State of Texas from 1976 to 1987 before becoming a judge of the 225th District Court of Bexar County from 1987 to 1988.
On the recommendation of U.S. Senator Phil Gramm, Garza was nominated to the United States District Court for the Western District of Texas by President Ronald Reagan on February 2, 1988, to a seat vacated by Judge William S. Sessions as Sessions assumed senior status. Garza was confirmed by the U.S. Senate by unanimous consent on April 19, 1988. He received commission on April 20, 1988.
On the recommendation of U.S. Senator Phil Gramm, Garza was nominated to the United States Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit by President George H.W. Bush on April 11, 1991, to a seat vacated by Judge Thomas Reavley when Reavley assumed senior status. Garza was confirmed by the U.S. Senate on May 24, 1991, by unanimous consent and received commission on May 30, 1991. On August 1, 2012, Judge Emilio Garza assumed senior status. He retired from senior status on January 5, 2015.
