Dawn Avery

Dawn Avery is a Grammy nominated cellist, composer, and vocalist who teaches at Montgomery College in Rockville, MD. Dawn, who is of Mohawk descent, is serving as one of the Music Department's Class of 1939 Maurine Stuart Dulin artists-in-residence this year. She composed Secrets Ohsatstenhserón:ní, in recognition of the 300th anniversary of the Brafferton Indian School, for the W&M Wind Ensemble and Indian Territory, which acknowledges those indigenous peoples on whose land the College resides, for the Gallery Players.

On April 26th, members of the Wind Ensemble will perform a preview of Secrets on the grounds of the Brafferton. Information about the founding of the Indian School, written by Danielle Moretti-Langholtz,  will be read by Matthew Solomon, Grace Cogley, and Dakota Kinsel, all members of W&M's American Indian Student Association.
