[PAST EVENT] The 1st Generation College Experience
March 18, 2015
4pm - 6pm
With Professors Christy Burns, Laura Heymann, David Aday, and Vern Lindquist; Karlene Jennings from Development, and Carla Costello from the President's Office--all first generation college students who now work in higher education!
If you did not grow up in a family culture where attending college was the norm, college can be a daunting, uncomfortable and unsuccessful experience. How can first generation college students better enjoy their college experience and be successful? What is the best way for first generation college students to deal with pressure from family and friends from back home who cannot relate to your experience? What should professors, parents and others know in order to lend support instead of adding to the pressure as first generation students strive to achieve their goals? If you have had any of these questions as a first generation college student or as someone who wants to support one, join!
