[PAST EVENT] Virtual Discovery Lab - Seagrasses in the Chesapeake Bay

Seagrass beds play a vital role in the Chesapeake Bay ecosystem. They provide food and shelter for many species of fish and invertebrates, they help improve water quality and prevent erosion, and they can even help in the fight against climate change. Join us on Tuesday, May 19th as Erin Shields, a marine scientist with the Chesapeake Bay National Estuarine Research Reserve (CBNERR) at VIMS teaches us all about seagrasses, including the different types found in the Bay, reasons for their decline over time, and stories of restoration. She'll also show us cool videos of seagrass inhabitants in the wild. This Discovery Lab will include a short, 12 minute  pre-recorded talk from Erin at 6 pm on the CBNERR Facebook page as well as resources and activities to further your learning at home.  Erin and CBNERR Educators will be available to answer questions via the comments section on Facebook from 6-7 pm. 

Discovery labs are family-friendly programs intended for all ages. The Discovery Lab recording will be posted on our Multimedia Resource Center webpage after the 19th.
