On April 20, 2011, the Chesapeake Bay National Estuarine Research Reserve in Virginia will host a York River Research Symposium, to be held at the Virginia Institute of Marine Science (VIMS). The program will include contributed oral sessions and the possibility of a poster session.
The goal of the symposium is to allow for the exchange of information and ideas that increase our understanding of the York River watershed and riverine system, and contribute to our knowledge of how to best sustain the health and productivity of its resources. We anticipate a multidisciplinary group of presenters and participants, including experts from the scientific and academic communities, resource and land managers, and outreach specialists, who will gather to present their latest research, discuss current hot topics, and share new ideas.
Topic areas include, but are not limited to:
Physical oceanography, benthic processes and watershed science
Water quality and contaminant loadings
Upland, land margin and nearshore habitat research and inventories
Habitat/species vulnerability in a changing climate
Wildlife and fisheries (including commercial, recreational and aquaculture
Invasive species
Future challenges (advancing a science agenda, enhancing science-based solutions to meet public and resource management needs)
