Echinoderms-from the Greek for "hedgehog skin"-are a group of marine animals that include starfish, sea urchins, sand dollars, sea cucumbers, and sea lilies. Echinoderms are found at every ocean depth, from the shallow intertidal to the depths of the abyssal plain. There are approximately 7,000 living echinoderm species, and in this lab you will have the opportunity to get up close and personal with a few of them! Observe and touch live specimens, learn about their ability to regenerate parts of their bodies, and discover how they contribute to incredibly important limestone formations.
