Fisheries management, including delineating stock boundaries and guiding conservation efforts, benefits greatly from modern genetic analysis. Ongoing work at the Virginia Institute of Marine Science is using genetics to help inform management of many important recreational species including speckled trout (Cynoscion nebulosus), tautog (Tautoga onitis) and blueline tilefish (Caulolatilus microps). This talk will outline current issues with each of these fisheries and show how genetic data is being used to help resolve these issues.
There is no charge for this presentation. Seating limited to 60 people.
