VIMS Events

In the ocean, larger, faster fishes tend to prey on smaller, slower fishes. In the Bay, we have a variety of predatory fishes: from striped bass to cobia to twelve species of sharks! These animals are so well-adapted to hunting prey, that they have become popular and important sport fishing species in the Bay. This lab will focus on these predatory fishes and will explain how they have evolved to become such excellent swimmers and hunters. VIMS Ph.D. student Dan Crear will explain his research on the effects of changes in temperature and dissolved oxygen on cobia and juvenile sandbar sharks.
