American lobsters are a valued and important species in the U.S., supporting a fishery worth millions and enjoyed by seafood lovers around the world. Understanding the early life stages of the lobster is important for predicting how lobster populations, and the industry that relies on them, will change in the future. During this lab, Abigail Sisti, a VIMS PhD candidate, will help us understand the impact of increasing water temperatures on larval lobsters and what those impacts may mean for the future of this important crustacean.

Discovery Labs are provided each month by the Chesapeake Bay National Estuarine Research Reserve in Virginia (CBNERR-VA). These labs provide fun, family-friendly opportunities to learn about the Chesapeake Bay and our local environment. Each lab includes a short presentation followed by activity demonstrations and trivia games. Resources are also provided for kids and adults to further their exploration of the topic at home. Registration is required to receive access to this online event.
