Guest lecture hosted by the Anthropology Graduate Student Collective

Noninvasive and micro-invasive investigative methodologies are revolutionizing how we can gather information about cultural heritage materials. The focus of the talk will be on old master paintings, but a discussion of a ceramic case study will broaden the discussion. Portable techniques such as X-ray fluorescence spectroscopy, fiber optic reflectance spectroscopy, and reflectance imaging spectroscopy via multi and hyperspectral reflectance imaging will be discussed, along with some synchrotron methods.
