Jeffrey Dvorkin is a senior fellow at Massey College, a center for journalistic research at the University of Toronto. From 2010 until 2020, he was director of the journalism program at the University of Toronto. Prior to teaching, he was in charge of two international news organizations, CBC Radio in Toronto and NPR News in Washington, DC. From 2000-2006 he was NPR’s first independent news ombudsman. Dvorkin has lectured and taught journalism abroad as well, in Turkey, West Africa, Chile, Portugal, Germany, Poland and the UK, to name a few. He got his start as the overnight editor for CBS News in London, while working on a graduate degree at the London School of Economics. Upon his return to Canada, he worked in journalism at the CBC in Montreal, Ottawa, and Toronto before departing for the US in 1997. He returned to Toronto in 2008. He is a frequent media commentator on ethical issues and has recently authored an undergraduate textbook, “Trusting the News in a Digital Age”, as a guide for students and citizens alike through these challenging times.
