The Friday of Commencement weekend, graduating students are invited to gather for a candle-lighting ceremony. Tradition holds that the seniors select three speakers — one faculty member, one administrator and one fellow student — each of whom has had a close relationship with the class during their years at William & Mary. The atmosphere is fun and nostalgic, culminating in illuminating and raising the candles together as a graduating class. And, of course, with candles aloft, they sing the Alma Mater." NOTE: Due to COVID-19 restrictions, only graduating students wearing regalia will be permitted inside Zable Stadium for the Candlelight Ceremony.
