Hear from Ukrainian LGBTQI+ activists how Russia's war against Ukraine is affecting the LGBTQI+ community.
Panelists:
Bogdan Globa: Bogdan was the first openly gay person to address the Ukrainian parliament, and advocated for civil partnerships and anti-discrimination policies for LGBTQI+ persons. In 2016, following threats from far-right groups, he sought asylum in the United States. Once in America, he founded QUA - LGBTQ Ukrainians in America, the first NGO advocating for the queer Ukrainian diaspora in the United States.
Olena Globa: Olena Globa is a co-founder of TERGO, Ukraine's movement of parents for LGBTQI+ advocacy and support. Along with her son Bogdan, she has fostered a network of family members of LGBTQI+ Ukrainians to speak out against homophobia and transphobia in Ukraine. In 2016, Olena was awarded by the Human Rights First and Human Rights Campaign with a prestigious human rights award for advancing human rights around the world. She is currently living in Washington, DC after escaping the war in Kyiv.
