One of the most controversial films in the history of the medium, lauded for its technical innovations and heavily criticized for its propagandistic valorization of the fascist body, the body of the "Volk," and the German national "destiny," Riefenstahl's film about the 1936 Olympics was presented to Hitler on the occasion of his 49th birthday and won the Gold Medal at the Venice Film Festival in 1938.
