He has written or edited 11 books (his most recent, The Clash of Orthodoxies, sold 15,000 copies--a remarkable achievement for an academic tome); He is a frequent contributor to the Wall Street Journal; He has been honored by both the liberal American Bar Association and the conservative Federalist Society; He served on President George W. Bush's Council on Bioethics, and the U.S. Commission on Civil Rights under President Clinton as a conservative rabble-rouser for six years.
