On July 26, 2012, President Obama launched a new White House Initiative on Educational Excellence for African Americans to help accelerate national efforts to support African American students. In response to this initiative, all Virginia educators are welcome to join us for a workshop on issues that pertain to African-American educators in Virginia schools.

Workshop topics will be organized for each hour according to participant interest. Topics may include:

How African-American educators are assessed by administrators
How African-American educators are evaluated by students
Recruiting and retaining African-American educators
Preparing for future leadership positions
Preparing for promotion/tenure
Dealing with structural injustice in schools
Dealing with discrimination in schools
