[PAST EVENT] Liederabend -- Songs by Schubert, Schumann, Mozart and Strauss with Kinneret Ely and Maria Yefimova

August 22, 2011
8pm - 9:30pm
Location
Williamsburg Library
Kinneret Ely is giving a Liederabend, an evening of songs by Franz Schubert, Robert Schumann, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and Richard Strauss, at the Williamsburg Library on August 22, at 8 p.m., with Maria Yefimova at the piano. The program is an unusual sequence of lieder that Kinneret has put together, some well known, others quite rare, ranging from soaring lyricism to biting sarcasm, and covering the span of Romantic music from its first hints in Mozart's songs to its latest manifestations in the works of Richard Strauss. The words are by some of the greatest German poets, including Goethe and Heine. The performance is free and open to the public.

Kinneret has performed her Liederabend already at the Felicja Blumenthal Music Center in Tel Aviv, Israel on August 4, and will perform it this fall at Lang Hall at Hunter College in New York. Kinneret has studied at William & Mary as an unclassified student before moving to New York; she is the daughter of Melvin Ely of the history department and of Naama Zahavi-Ely of the Department of Classical Studies. She is currently a student in the honors program of Hunter College, New York. She studies privately with W. Stephen Smith, Claudia Friedlander and Joan Dornemann. Maria Yefimova is on the piano faculty at the College of William and Mary.
