The primary barrier to engaging students in proactive risk management efforts can be attributed to the way the topic has been approached. Rules, policies, and a litany of "thou shalt nots" have remained the focus of many risk management programs and resources to students. Even though we understand that student learning occurs best through experiential and collaborative efforts, we have not yet shifted away from the language of policy and laws that originally shaped the risk management discussion.
