[PAST EVENT] Teaching Project Workshop
October 7, 2014
12:30pm - 1:30pm
All faculty and graduate students are invited to attend the next Teaching Project workshop. Lunch will be served.
****If you would like to attend, please RSVP by no later than noon 10/6 to: [[jxschw]] ****
Workshop Abstract: Three challenges for faculty are honest in-class feedback, focused in-class review, and focused individual in-class thinking. A method that can encourage all three is the eyes-closed exercise. This technique can serve as the prelude to other exercises, such as a Think-Pair-Share exercise, or it can stand alone. In this workshop, we will run some eyes-closed exercises in typical classroom scenarios. We'll discuss the pedagogical reasons that support these exercises, including: Removal of distractors, the benefits of retrieval practice, active learning, and self-assessment of recall and problem-solving skills as a metacognitive strategy. During the exercises, attendees may decide for themselves how well the method might work in practice with their students.
