The Chesapeake Bay watershed covers 64,000 square miles and includes parts of 6 states, extending all the way up to Cooperstown, New York. Everyone impacts the watershed, no matter how far away from the Bay they live. Come and learn about what a watershed is, how pollutants and nutrients end up in the Bay, and what you can do to help. May Sligh, Watershed Field Coordinator for the Virginia Department of Conservation and Recreation, will give an overview of the Chesapeake Bay watershed and the issues impacting it. Participants will have the chance to do many hands-on activities, including using an Enviroscape model of the watershed and making a mini watershed model to take home.
