February 8, 2016
5pm - 6:30pm
Title:
"Exerting influence?: Colonial Legacies and Archaeological Interventions"
Abstract:
Evidence-based and theoretically-informed interpretations of the cultural affects and effects of colonialism routinely challenge established historical narratives, but in what manner can, or should, these interpretations be mobilised in the present? Drawing from research into the archaeology of early modern British expansion in Ireland and the Chesapeake, issues of ethics and professional pragmatics are addressed in considering the case for embedding archaeologies of identity and encounter within the broader sphere of conflict transformation.
