[PAST EVENT] Spring Impact Week
On behalf of Students for University Advancement, we are excited to host Spring Impact Week, Monday, January 30th ? Friday, February 3rd. To qualify as one of our final three Impact Week participants, student organizations across campus submitted proposals identifying community service projects that would benefit both the William & Mary and Williamsburg community. This semester, we have selected Alpha Chi Omega, Campus Kitchen and Kappa Kappa Gamma as our three Impact Week finalists. Here is a quick overview of each project:
? Alpha Chi Omega: AXO will initiate a Comfort Kit Campaign to provide children admitted to the Avalon Center, a domestic violence and sexual assault agency, with arrival kits full of games and toys meant to occupy children during the initial intake process and provide comfort as they experience drastic changes in their environment.
? Campus Kitchen: Campus Kitchen serves meals to nearly 100 food-insecure residents each week, totaling a near 2,400 meals during the academic year. Impact Week funds will be used to purchase supplies to ensure safe food handling, create cookbooks for their volunteers, and fund their nutrition education and field trip programs for low-income neighborhoods.
? Kappa Kappa Gamma: Partnering with Fear 2 Freedom, KKG will host a packaging event where students can assist Kappa sisters by putting together ?care boxes? for survivors of sexual assault. These packages will be available for survivors at the hospital and contain comforting items such as clean clothes, toiletries, journals, teddy bears, recourse cards, and handwritten notes from event volunteers.
This week, these organizations will compete for the $2,500 grand prize, which will be used to execute their community service project. Second place will receive $1,500 and third place will receive $1,000. Students can cast their vote for their preferred project by making a $5 donation to any area of William & Mary.
