[PAST EVENT] Research in Action Speaker Series: Dr. Finbarr Sloane
The third talk in the School of Education's Research in Action Speaker Series will bring Finbarr Sloane to campus for a talk on Feb. 17.
Dr. Sloane is a program director in the Division of Research on Learning (in formal and informal settings), Education and Human Resources Directorate of the National Science Foundation. Before rejoining NSF, Dr. Sloane held tenured appointments at Arizona State University, the University of Colorado at Boulder, the NSF, and was a principal at Hewitt Associates (now AON-Hewitt) where he was head of research.
He has published more than 40 refereed articles and book chapters and has co-authored two research monographs. His research interests in mathematics education include the learning of mathematics school settings and the teaching and learning of inferential statistics. His research interests in methodology include the integration of growth curve analysis, multilevel modeling and research design in educational field settings.
His research has been published in Educational Researcher, Irish Educational Studies, Journal for Research in Mathematics Education, Reading Research Quarterly, Research in Mathematics Education, and Theory into Practice. He serves, or has served, on the editorial boards of a number of journals including: American Journal of Education, Irish Educational Studies, Journal of School Psychology, Mathematical Thinking and Learning, and Reading Research Quarterly. He is a member of the board of trustees for the AMB Foundation (a small foundation dedicated to supporting Native Peoples of the Americas).
