Dr. Perry Gerakines of the NASA Goddard Space Flight Center - Cosmic Ice Laboratory presents
?Radiolysis and Infrared Spectroscopy of Ices and Icy Materials in the Laboratory?
Friday, February 16 at 3 pm in ISC 1127.

Planetary bodies are often exposed to harsh incident radiation, which will influence the times that molecules can survive on them. I will discuss recent results from the Cosmic Ice Laboratory at NASA Goddard Space Flight Center on the radiation-chemical kinetics of the molecules glycine and uracil when exposed to MeV protons at 10-150 K. Our lab also regularly measures the IR optical constants and absorption intensities of astrochemically important molecules, for use in the interpretation of observed spectra. Recent results will be presented.
