March 30, 2013
2pm

Alan B. Miller Hall (Business School), Brinkley Commons101 Ukrop Way
Williamsburg, VA 23185Map this location
One hundred of William & Mary's most impassioned TEDx fans will come together on March 30 at 2 p.m. for an evening of networking and dialogue surrounding the ways the William & Mary community has been on the forefront of innovation since 1693.
TEDxCollegeofWilliam&Mary is an independently organized event licensed by TED.
This exciting program, entitled "Historically Innovative," will fill the Brinkley Commons of William & Mary's Mason School of Business in Miller Hall and will feature an incredible lineup of speakers on topics across a diverse group of industries and academic disciplines. Additionally, a pre-show networking event will include an expo that will feature student groups and local nonprofits and businesses. The post-show after party is still in development.
The event is public, but due to the limited space of Brinkley Commons, tickets will be distributed via a lottery system to students, faculty and staff who submit an attendee registration form. Community members are welcome to join the live stream of the event in the Commonwealth Auditorium of the Sadler Center. The pre-show and post-show events are also public and open to all community members as those events do not require tickets.
The attendee registration, speaker lineup and specific details for the pre- and post-event will be released in February.
"We want TEDxCollegeofWilliam&Mary to be the product of collaboration among faculty, staff, alumni and students. We hope to see speakers from all of these groups to show the global community the innovative ideas that began among these bricks," said Dimelza Gonzales-Flores, TEDx licensee.

About TEDx, where x = independently organized
In the spirit of "ideas worth spreading," TED has created TEDx. TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. Our event is called TEDxCollegeofWilliam&Mary, where x = independently organized TED event. At TEDxCollegeofWilliam&Mary, TEDTalks video and live speakers will combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.
About TED
TED is a nonprofit organization devoted to Ideas Worth Spreading. Started as a four-day conference in California 26 years ago, TED has grown to support those world-changing ideas with multiple initiatives. At TED, the world's leading thinkers and doers are asked to give the talk of their lives in 18 minutes. Talks are then made available, free, at TED.com. TED speakers have included Bill Gates, Jane Goodall, Elizabeth Gilbert, Sir Richard Branson, Benoit Mandelbrot, Philippe Starck, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, Isabel Allende and former UK Prime Minister Gordon Brown. Two major TED events are held each year: The TED Conference takes place every spring in Long Beach, California (along with a parallel conference, TEDActive, in Palm Springs), and TEDGlobal is held each summer in Edinburgh, Scotland.
TED's media initiatives include TED.com, where new TEDTalks are posted daily; the new TED Conversations, enabling broad conversations among TED fans; and the Open Translation Project, which provides subtitles and interactive transcripts as well as the ability for any TEDTalk to be translated by volunteers worldwide.
TED has established the annual TED Prize, where exceptional individuals with a wish to change the world are given the opportunity to put their wishes into action; TEDx, which offers individuals or groups a way to host local, self-organized events around the world; and the TED Fellows program, helping world-changing innovators from around the globe to become part of the TED community and, with its help, amplify the impact of their remarkable projects and activities.
