The Patrick Hayes Writer's Series presents Poets Tess Taylor and David Eye

TESS TAYLOR is the author of THE FORAGE HOUSE, which was named one of the best books of poetry published in 2016 by The New York Times and was praised by former Poet Laureate Natasha Trethewey as ?brave and compelling?a vital link to our shared American past.? Taylor has received awards and fellowships from MacDowell, Headlands Center for the Arts and the International Center for Jefferson Studies, where she worked on a number of poems exploring Jefferson?s clouded legacy. She is the on air poetry reviewer for NPR?s ?All Things Considered,? and an enthusiastic gardener and cook, which she explores among other themes in her second book, WORKS & DAYS.

DAVID EYE, a William & Mary alum and a native of rural Virginia, is a U.S. Army veteran and former actor/singer (placing him in ?an elite group of writers who have served in both the U.S. Army and the Broadway tour of Cats.?) His 2017 poetry collection, Seed, has been described as ?luminous and intimate,? exploring his Virginia roots as well as his journey of coming out as a gay man. Eye was the recipient of a 2017 Walter E. Dakin Fellowship in Poetry and a 2014 Tennessee Williams Scholarship in Poetry from the Sewanee Writers? Conference.

Made possible by a bequest from Patrick Hayes, the event is free and open to the public. A reception and book sale/signing will follow the reading.
