[PAST EVENT] Open Educational Resources: Talk with Dr. Cable Green

Please join us as we welcome special guest Dr. Cable Green from Creative Commons. Dr. Green will present a keynote talk on how OER benefits learning, access, and student success in our institutions and why now is the perfect time to look more closely at adopting OER at our institutions.
Open Education Resources (OER) are free, mixable textbooks and learning objects that empower faculty to develop the most effective teaching tools instead of adopting an imperfect textbook while simultaneously removing cost and access barriers for students. Recent research has shown that Open Education Resources help students achieve the same or better markers of student success than traditional textbooks.
Come learn more about this unique opportunity to adopt customized textbooks and instructional materials in your courses while eliminating barriers to education access like textbook costs.
Agenda is as follows:
9-10 a.m. Keynote: The Learning, Business and Moral Case for Open Educational Resources and Open Policies
Dr. Green will discuss why OER are important, how they support teaching goals, student success and the values of higher education.
10:30-11:30 a.m. How can academic support staff be OER leaders?
This session will help librarians and academic technologists think about how to support and lead open education efforts on campus.
3-4 p.m. Faculty Q&A (no RSVP required)
