The Department of English invites you to join fellow alumni, staff, and faculty as we celebrate the significant contributions made during the 40 year career of Professor Christopher MacGowan. Light hors d'oeuvres, refreshments, and cake will be served.
Chris MacGowan has taught at William & Mary for 40 years, his courses mainly covering American Literature, modern poetry, and expository writing. He taught in the first years of the Film Studies program when it was called that. His administrative duties have included running the M.A. Program in the Department of English, held Department Chair and Associate Chair, Acting Assistant Director of the Reves Center, and Director of the Cambridge Program. He has been Advisor of the Year twice, and been the recipient of a National Endowment for the Humanities Award. He has written or edited nine books, ranging from a book for 8-12 year olds to scholarly editions. A tenth book will appear in late Spring 2024.
